this is an amazing tape and definitely the best of the recent waterpower offerings. lately when i'm listening to PE i often find myself wondering, "where are the godforsaken vocals? this is power electronics, isn't it?" the Kleptocracy Pyre tape doesn't skimp like that. gruff, upfront vocals anchor each track, demonstrating smoldering aggression and a perfect sense of pacing. each piece feels carefully composed, with rich, thick backing tracks, never too sparse nor too overbearing. it's obvious that each track is a controlled, carefully wrought composition, rather than disorganized swaths of noise and screaming. very "euro," very "classic PE," but with an interesting and somewhat obscure concept rather than the predictable "political" or "right wing" themes we're used to from this part of the world. the key words here are "poise" and "detail". inspiring release. i hope Kleptocracy Pyre won't be a one-off project.
