Alva Noto Xerrox Vol. 2 2008 CD Raster-Noton
"xerrox vol. 2 undertakes an intense journey and affords the luxury to take its time." while xerrox vol. 1 (r-n 78) referred to the 'old world' with its tradition deeply rooted in classical music, xerrox vol. 2 tries to access a 'new world'. it works with samples that have been gathered and developed in the usa -- the so-called 'new world' -- where the album also has almost completely been recorded.
Ambarchi, Oren Stacte.3 2009 CD Black Truffle
"Originally released in 2000 as a limited vinyl only album, 'Stacte.3' is now available on CD for the first time. Described by Wire scribe Jon Dale as "Alvin Lucier and Cluster collaborating for Mego", the concept of Oren Ambarchi's 'Stacte' LP series - now comprising of five volumes - began in 1998. The first few 'Stacte' LPs were self-released by Ambarchi and featured his earliest explorations of the guitar and its sonic possibilities after a period known as a drummer in post-punk, noise and free jazz outfits. An idea was explored and investigated at length using a spontaneous approach, with Ambarchi treating each side of the vinyl like a canvas, slowly capturing a moment, patiently teasing every nuance and implication from each texture. His method allowed the listener to sink their teeth into something substantial over the course of the LP side's entire duration, resulting in an otherworldly, cumulative impact of patiently unfolding compositions. Remastered in December 2008 and with artwork designed by Stephen O'Malley." CD // 2 tracks. // digipack.

Atom TM Liedgut 2009 CD Raster-Noton
"From a contemporary point of view, Atom^(TM)'s "Liedgut" may be considered a romantic work. While researching his own past, Atom^(TM) found himself in the austro-german time, space, thinking and feeling. Between Nietzsche, Helmholtz, Schubert and many other guidelines, Atom^(TM) absorbed a universe striving for clarity and simplicity, where science and irrationality, ornament and mathematic purity were the key elements of a (still) oscillating social and mental order. "Liedgut" therefore oscillates between those poles: scientific exercises on Schubert chord progressions, digital waltzes and romantic lyrics. This research consistently lead him to the post-romantic works of Oskar Sala, Kraftwerk and others, who could be seen as direct heirs of the romantic movement.
BJ Nilsen/Stilluppsteypa Man From Deep River 2009 CD Editions Mego
"Man From Deep River opens up a new development in their sound. Melodic passages with sweeping electronics and analogue synthesizers mixed with field recordings and disturbed voices creating a multifaceted piece. The Swedish born BJ Nilsen defines his work as "focused upon the sound of nature and its effects on humans, and the perception of time and space as experienced through sound." He has numerous recordings on Touch and has collaborated with the likes of Chris Watson, Christian Fennesz, and Z'ev. The Icelandic citizens Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson and Helgi Thorsson are Stilluppsteypa, whose electronic abstractions engage absurd theatrics that mar the pristine surface of minimalism." CD // 3 tracks // 69:59 mins.

This new Bokanowski CD offers us two previously edited pieces (but now sold out) : "Trois Chambres d'Inquiétude" (1975-1976) (previously on Elevator Bath) and "Tabou" (1983-1984) (previously on Metamkine) and an unpublished piece "Phone Variations" (1986-1988). Great electro-acoustic music works! CD // 3 tracks.

Combineharvester Mow Grass, Slit Throats, The Like 2008 CD A Tree In A Field
"It's taken a while for this one to get finished. But Combineharvester aka Marlon McNeill hasn't been sleeping. Be it the occasional recording session with Trencher or the constant gigging with Speck, there's always something to do. Most other projects being very loud this refuge of multi instrumentalist Combineharvester is a quiet one. Mow Grass, Slit Throats, The Like is a trip into distorted singer/songwriter, psychedelic fields. Yet the noisy outburst or the odd drone escapade are never quite far. There are stories being told about cold feet. Cold feet stuck in concrete blocks. Bloody coughs and somehow a lot of knifes and other sharp objects have found it's way into this book. As a bonus on the cd you'll find the short film The Day After by Director Bettina Hägeli." Enhanced CD // 13 Tracks // 39 mins. // 3 page digipack.
Combineharvester/I Was A King Split 2009 7" A Tree In A Field
"Beautifully designed and screen-printed by MARKUS STäHLI of Roy and the Devil's Motorcycle. Each of these singles are unique. The cover screen printed and designed by Roy and the devil's motorcycle's Markus Stählin. Where there's usually a paper label, you'll find engraved information. That alone is enough reason to want to have this record. But there's also the music: Combineharvester - album releases last year, which although rated "very difficult" was received well. «Knifes To Nipples» is a pretty psyched psyched ditty - starting as a quiet trickle which develops into a wild beast. I Was A King is Frode Stromstad, indie-pop missioner home to the sleepy village of Egersund - Norway. His second album has jsut been released on Hype City. To «Step Aside» you might want to jump up and wave your hands in the air or just stand shoe-gazing in a corner. Both works." 7" // 2 racks // limited to 300 copies.
Comelade, Pascal Back To Schizo (1975-1983) 2005 CD Gazul
"Long before the large audiences came to discover him in the middle of the Eighties, Pascal Comelade has always been an electronic and electro-acoustic music lover. Influenced by or having relationships with musicians like Richard Pinhas, Brian Eno, Robert Wyatt, Carla Bley or Michael Nyman, this French artist has been able to create a music often described as minimalist, made of concise melodic fragments and brief musical experimentations. Listening to Back To Schizo - 1975-1983 enables to measure how much the master of toy-instruments has been a precursor of the present electronic fashion, particularly by the use of the famous AKS-EMS synthesizer. This sampler, released by the Gazul label and directed by Pascal Comelade himself, comes back to the best sequences of the three studio albums ('Fluence', 'Paralelo' & 'Sentimientos'), various tapes and numerous contributions to compilations. The right moment to open a brand new thematic collection on the Gazul label: Les Zut-O-Pistes. This is a fascinating collection of evocative and innovative music, to be discovered as soon as possible !" CD // 25 tracks.

En Esch/ Mona Mur 120 Days - The Fine Art of Beauty and Violence 2009 CD Pale Music Int.
"On the CD "120 Days - The Fine Art of Beauty and Violence" Mona Mur is collaborating with EN ESCH, the striking front man and talented guitarist who once formed the basis of the german/US electro-industrial outfit KMFDM and now enjoys a cult-hero status in his larger-than-life stage persona. The accomplished multi-instrumentalist and producer has drastically transformed Mur's most intense 80s Songs into a unique blend of electronic drum loops, bass, dirty organ and wreckless feedback guitars. Live they are accompanied by drummer Johann Bley (Juno Reactor, Killing Joke, Holger Hiller)" (Pale) CD // 11 tracks // 55:16 mins.
English, Lawrence It's Up To Us To Live 2009 CD Sirr
"It's Up To Us To Live has seen a prolonged birth. It's commencement in 2004 began around the same moments as the final touches were being put to the album Happiness Will Befall (issued originally by Cronica). In some ways these two records pair one another - they form a spiraling coil of echo location and feedback. Whereas 'Happiness...' might be considered a lush and evocatively melodic affair, It's Up To Us To Live is profoundly more dense and compressed, only offering the occasionally moment to surface for air. Much of this LPs sound textures emanate from distant calls of guitar, sharply cracked electronics, alien field recordings and a variety of other less identifiable sources." CD // 7 tracks // 51:50 mins.
English, Lawrence/López, Francisco HB 2009 CD Baskaru
"Francisco López -- the most mysterious sound artist ever, the man who has elevated aural enigma and sonic displacement to artform status -- joins forces with Lawrence English, the leading figure of the Australian experimental music scene, for a puzzling CD. What is "HB"? "It's two quite unusual found sound pieces and two musique concrète works based on each other's works," explains English. In other words, López and English each submitted to the other a field recording piece, then composed a new piece from the other guy's field recording. The result is resolutely sombre going on obscurantist: occulted birdsongs, unidentified tremors, delicate but disquieting sounds from a jungle that could be either of the wild or urban kind. This soundworld lies somewhere between mystery and mystification." (Baskaru) CD // 4 tracks // 52:28 mins. // 3 page digipack.
Evans, Peter/Walter, Weasel Group Oculus Ex Abyssus 2008 LP ugExplode
"Two side long tracks of manic extended technique and fury by this all acoustic quartet featuring inzane NYC trumpet marvel Peter Evans! This is disruptive, detailed music that pushes the limits of speed, timbre and articulation. BUY OR DIE! Consider this deluxe edition sort of like a fine arts print - there will be no digital version, so this LP is the only way you might hear this fine, abstract music. this burning studio session features Peter Evans (trumpet), Paul Hartsaw (tenor and soprano saxophones), Damon Smith (contrabass) and Weasel Walter (drums) performing some hair-raisingly fast and furious articulations of unusual soundmaking." LP // 2 tracks // Limited to 300 copies on 180 gram clear green vinyl with full color high gloss coat sleeve.
Evapori Rehearsals For Objects 2009 CD 1000füssler
"The aim while composing was to create a sound landscape that is exclusively made up of recordings which are not processed by computer effects (so-called plug-ins). The sounds are influenced by the way they are recorded, e.g. by the positions of the microphone and the sound source in a room. The resulting sonic situations are the basis of the the composition. The sounds -- most of them of an everyday nature -- were transformed using computer editing only, in order to leave the recognizability of the sounds untouched, create tension and to arouse the listener's curiosity through different atmospheric cadences." CD // 3 tracks // 33:20 mins. // 300 copies in special foldout cardboard cover.
Fages, Ferran Al Voltant D?un Paral.lel 2008 CD Etude
Ferran Fages:electric guitar.Recorded live by Pablo Rega, january 19th 2007 at Almazen, Barcelona. Some tracks are versions or new approaches of pieces released before in the album "a cavall entre dos cavalls"
Fennesz/Jeck/Matthews Amoroso 2008 7" Touch
Christian Fennesz and Philip Jeck refashion the music of Charles Matthews (who joins them in the trio Spire), in particular a recording of Matthews at the grand pipe organ at York Minister Church -- the formidable wall of tooled metal and wooden cabinetry depicted on the front cover. Fennesz's treatment grows from solemnity with a mid-track series of melodic counterpoints to the piece's apex, adding a pitch of desperation and longing to the constancy of the source instrument. By comparison, Jeck's composition is heavily processed, feeding back a shifting set of monolithic timbres atop the organ itself, transforming its sound almost completely, and reminiscent of the treachery on display in some Tangerine Dream soundtracks (spiritually I'd line this one up against Sorcerer). Great offering in a series that continues to do unexpected, worthwhile things with the seven-inch single. (Dusted)
Flimmer Business Punks Fuck Off 2007 7" A Tree In A Field
"As we all know Dead Kennedys have recently made more headlines through law suits, sueing eatchother and dubious re-union tours than by producing quality, politics-made-enjoyable, music! How much does it take for a Nazi Punk to become a Business Punk? Flimmer pick up the Dead Kennedys song Nazi Punks Fuck Off, twist and turn it, play all riffs backwards and change the lyrics accordingly. Let's see how long it will take to see Dead Kennedys and Flimmer at court... Side B gives us a taste of the upcoming Flimmer Album. Sing along with Flimmer: Reiz und Flimmer, Reiz und Flimmer, Reiz und Flimmer..." 7" // 2 tracks // 3 mins // Ltd 200 // comes in printed plastic-sleeve.
Flimmer Phase IV 2007 CD A Tree In A Field
"It may sound like a joke: two bassists and a drummer write songs. It may sound like a joke but Flimmer are more serious than ever. Reduced from a quintet to a trio they have dropped every unnecessary wheight and are yet heavier then ever. Cynical but fun lyrics about fucking not just the system but the whole solar system. Flimmer offers deep insights of the Swiss mentality, Switzerland being one of the top ranking countrys of suicides. There's a lot behind that shiny fassade of money and chocolate. When Flimmer say revolution it doesn't leave behind a mouldy taste of long dead part-time punk attitude they're more likely to leave you puzzled with a WHAT? expression and a stammering Da Da. Is it Punk or is it Hardcore? It's definitely sci-fi. No surprise the album being named after the sci-fi classic of the mid 70ies. Flimmer means to flicker, mind the epileptic fit." CD // 17 Tracks // 22 mins. // limited to 300 copies.
Flying Luttenbachers, The Trauma 2008 CD ugExplode
"Originally released as a colored vinyl double LP in 2001, these 11 tracks of total energy still shock and invigorate the senses like they were recorded yesterday! Featuring Michael Colligan on reeds, Kurt Johnson on amplified contrabass and Weasel Walter on drums, this is a journey into unprecedented levels of fury and abstraction. This unit toured hard and spent a lot of time and work creating a unified group language and this release was the ultimate culmination of that effort. Fans of Milford Graves/ESP/FMP wild-ass free jazz take note - this is the real, uncut, hardcore stuff." CD // 11 tracks // almost 70 mins. // remastered.
Flying Luttenbachers, The Incarceration By Abstraction 2007 CD ugExplode
"Pushing all limits of structure, dissonance and energy . . . 8 brand new compositions of staggering power and complexity. Could this be the final chapter in the saga???? Those who want their "prog" BRUTAL will not be disappointed. Incarceration By Abstraction may prove to be the final Flying Luttenbachers album and it is a singular landmark in the field dissonant, modern rock complexity. Melding the approaches and innovations of previous releases like Infection and Decline, Systems Emerge, The Void and Cataclysm, this release reaches a highpoint of deadly rhythmic thrust, alien harmony and structural density. There is little more to be said - this album must be experienced to be believed." CD // 8 tracks.
Flying Luttenbachers, The The Void 2004 LP ugExplode
The debut offering by the latest Flying Luttenbachers line-up featuring guitar virtuoso Ed Rodriguez (also Gorge Trio, ex-Colossamite, ex-Iceburn), bassist Mike Green (also Burmese) and Weasel Walter back on the drum throne.

Hrkwk, Antn Mutually Assured 2008 CDR Recycling
""Mutually Assured" is an album of musical synonyms. Each song is made up of pieces of an already existing song - chopped up, re-arranged and layered to make new, generally unrecognizable compositions. Soaring melodies are transformed into frantic beats. The album is product of nothing more than sound-editing technique, as no audio effects or filters are used on it." (Recycling) CDR // 13 tracks // 40:18 mins. // jewelcase.
Ielasi, Giuseppe Aix 2009 CD 12K
"With Aix we see Ielasi building his layered, atmospheric music around rhythmic grids. Most of the time these are quite irregular and the pulses are not neccessarily stable or clear. Where his previous work approached sound in a linear fashion Aix imposes a strong vertical development with the aforementioned grid and a production consisting of ons and offs, employing as much improvisation as Ielasi's previous work, but in a different way. We hear fragments of percussive (acoustic) objects, drums, piano, trumpet, guitar, and, of course, synthetic textures. Although there is a distinct rhythmic pulse to Aix, Ielasi manages to mold it into something wonderfully languid and warm... and strangely inviting." CD // 9 tracks.
Jeck, Philip Suite: Live in Liverpool 2008 LP Autofact
"Suite: Live in Liverpool" follows Philip Jeck's acclaimed collaboration with Gavin Bryars and Alter Ego on a new version of 'The Sinking of the Titanic' (Touch Tone 34). It is the companion release to his latest solo album, 'Sand'; a set of five new compositions that highlight Jeck's mastery of vinyl manipulation, personal and collective memories. 'Suite' is at once elegiac, celebrational, mournful and uplifting. Those who have followed Jeck's development since his first release, "Loopholes" (Touch TO:26) will observe his return to the industrial textures that coloured that collection, though here they are fused with his symphonic grace and continued development as a composer and live performer ." LP // 5 tracks // 31:49 mins.
KK Null Akumu 2008 CD Vital
"On this album KK Null tests his own limits into the darkness and focus all his artistic skills on creating a personal cinematic audio nightmare. CD // 5 tracks // 56:27 mins. // deluxe 6 panel digipack.
Kotodama Captured Voices 2007 CD Vital

Monoton Eight Lost Tracks 2009 CD Oral

A pioneer in experimental electronic music, Becker continued to break new ground in electronic media. This CD contains distinguished electronic soundscapes related to mathematics and psycho-acoustics research made from 1981 to 1983 with analog synthesizers and micro-computers, including a Commodore 64. With many materials never released or rarely available, six of these Eight Lost Tracks see the light of day for the first time. O'Malley, Stephen Keep an Eye Out! 2008 LP Table Of The Elements
"Table of the Elements continues to celebrate its 15th anniversary with the tenth installment in its Guitar Series Vols. 3 & 4. It's a 12xLP romp of deviant fretnoise by some of experimental music's most prominent players, including Christian Fennesz, Thurston Moore, and Sunn O)))'s Stephen O'Malley. Sunn O))) founder Stephen O'Malley summons a mesmerizing drone, absorbing the listener into an aural tar pit of deep, inexorable oblivion. He wears a cloak of post-metal allegiances with behemoths like Earth, but beneath that, there is a vibrant body of work that owes as much to the heady minimalism of Tony Conrad and Steve Reich. Constantly pushing at the extremes of volume and duration, O'Malley's sound is a physical phenomenon, infused with an intimidating power -- and possessing, at its core, an oddly meditative tranquility." LP // 1 track // one-sided // pressed on etched coloured vinyl, etching artwork by Savage Pencil.

TB-303 influenced leads and lots of electric acid mess give this newcomer the stamp of a veteran.
Our Love Will Destroy The World Stillborn Plague Angels 2009 LP Dekorder
"Our Love Will Destroy The World is the new one-man project by New Zealander Campbell Kneale after disbanding BIRCHVILLE CAT MOTEL. The gates of Birchville Cat Motel crack, creak wide, and crash, unleashing a gush of soul-fried bleakness and love-damage stained with a defiantly metallic pose. Thats "METALLIC... as in, has the surface qualities of metal" not "METAL... as in, has the surface qualities of Metallica"... step back you fucking freaks. Although the broken bricks of BCM are still plain to see amid the burning wreck and ruin, 'Stillborn Plague Angels' represents the first fully formed sentence in a new chapter of Campbell Kneale's ongoing tome of star-spangled, psychedelic, noise-OM. Cholesterol-shaving guitar peeks over the trench to survey an adrenalised landscape of endless roaring catastrophy... Everything louder than everything else!" LP // 4 tracks.

Revolutionary Ensemble Beyond The Boundary Of Time 2008 CD Mutable
"Beyond the Boundary of Time documents the last live performance of the legendary Revolutionary Ensemble before Leroy Jenkins's death in 2007. This recording was made of a performance on May 25, 2005 in Warsaw, Poland. After the long overdue reissue in 2004 of their 1975 recording The Pysche on Mutable Music, the Revolutionary Ensemble - Leroy Jenkins (violin), Sirone (bass), and Jerome Cooper (drums, keyboards) reunited for both recording and performances. On this live set, each musician is represented by one of their own compositions Configuration by Sirone, Usami by Leroy Jenkins, and Le-Si-Jer by Jerome Cooper, as well as two group improvisations. All three of these great musicians are at the top of their form here, and one envies the Warsaw audience that attended what turns out to have been their final performance together. Their remarkable realization of the ensemble ideal was still revelatory and still revolutionary." (Mutable) CD // 5 tracks // 63:06 mins. // digipack.
Rose, Ethan Oaks 2009 CD Baskaru
"Imagine, if you will, an old Wurlitzer Theater Organ that once accompanied silent films in Portland, before being moved to the Oaks Park Roller Rink, where it has been ever since. Imagine the artist, Ethan Rose from Portland, Oregon, helping out repairing that antique, before starting to explore its tones, textures, and colours from another era. The result is "Oaks", Ethan's third full-length CD (after two titles for Locust Music: "Ceiling Songs" and "Spinning Pieces"). And once again, Ethan has succeeded in dragging a forgotten bit of our collective sonic past out of the shadows and reinterpreting it in a modern ambient electronica context. There is an elegant and crystalline quality to the eight pieces that make up this album. The music on "Oaks" evokes the meticulous sonic explorations of acousmatic composers like Francis Dhomont and Jonty Harrison, crossed with the dreamy and hazy soundworld of ambient experimentalists like Fennesz and Oren Ambarchi." (Baskaru) CD // 8 tracks // 37:57 mins. // digipack.

"Symbiosis Orchestra blends everything together, fuses everything, takes down genre and esthetic barriers to achieve a state of perfect symbiosis between electronic and acoustic music, computer-based and natural processes, composition and improvisation, beat and pulse, melody and texture, not to forget sound and image. "Live Journeys" offers a selection of live moments taken from various performances and featuring several permutations of the ensemble in trios, quartets and quintets. Gabriele (keyboards, computer, guitar & bass) is surrounded by an all-star line-up of sound designers and performers. >From the electronic scene, there is Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner), Mario Masullo (Defrag and DSP Recordings labels), and Iris Garrelfs, whose treated voice provides a bridge toward the realm of acoustic sounds, here represented by vibes player Stefano Tedesco (Strings of Consciousness), jazz flutist Geoff Warren, and instrumentalists Diego Conti (violin), Roberto di Egidio (trumpet) and Michele Scurti (piano)." Toy Killers (Charles K. Noyes) The Unlistenable Years 2008 CD ugExplode
Recently unearthed vintage NO WAVE skronk from the early '80s downtown NYC music scene featuring an all-star cast of legends in their noisy primes!!! more than an hour of previously unheard studio and live material circa '80-'84 by this incendiary group of malcontents led by madmen drummers Mark E. Miller and Charles K. Noyes.
Trio Sowari (Beins/Denzler/Durrant) Shortcut 2008 CD Potlatch
"Don't plan to get up and dance to this music. It requires attention to pick up clues from the sounds. The trio keeps things, for the most part, unobtrusive and placid without becoming apathetic. That's because the three interact so well. Betrand Denzler who has worked with Jean-Luc Guionnet, Stéphane Rives, and Frédéric Blondy, is a master of the breathy saxophone; mining his instrument for pop, inhalations, clicks and over-blown notes. Paired with percussionist Burkhard Beins (Phosphor) and superstar Phil Durrant, the saxophonist falls into the groove. Well, maybe not a groove so much as a conscious style. The listening experience here is either the confounding question of who made what sound or it is simply a reflection on the textures created. >From the on/off switching of the very short Piercing pieces, with lengths from 17 seconds to 1:19 to the rumble of Moving Targets and the ticking of Dots #2, the sounds offer the meditative simplicity of the acoustics of electricity that cannot be ignored. It's unclear how or what they've done, but surely Trio Sowari has done it again." (Mark Corroto l All About Jazz l October 2008)
Ubik Loop Finding... 2008 CDR Recycling
"On his third album ubik continues joining plunderphonic approach with ambient and lazy experimental electronics music. The idea was to find and sample short loops from the tracks that have not much to do with the mentioned stylistics and to try built completely new composition based on every of them. The way of treating sound is in straight line a development of the ideas used on "Cut with the blade", where Mikolaj Trzaska's recordings of clarinet and saxophone were the starting point. As an effect there are six tracks, every made from only one sound loop. Its sources don't really matter (and the familiar sounding titles really aren't any help here) - what does is the music. CD contains also tracks from "Cut With The Blade" album, originally released by DiSfish netlabel."" (Recycling) CDR // 14 tracks // 69:50 mins. // jewelcase.

Sound collages influenced by the lyrical work of Rolf Bossert (1952 - 1986). The artists took some parts of historical readings as a sound source to create music that ranges from noise rock to ambient, techno and jazz.
V.A. Berlin Insane IV 2006 2CD Pale Music Int.
Berlin Insane IV is a much more eclectic mix than before, which is reflective of the range and diversity of the artists working here. From the aural percussion assault of N. U. Unruh to the whimisical, operatic Planningtorock, via the retro pop-punk of Pink Grease through to dance-floor disco courtesy of The Scandals round back of the melancholy acoustics of Christian Meyer to the techno-electro of Ascii Disko via the aggressive punk rock of Crack Whore Society and the mechanical electro of Peaches vs. Gibby Haynes, taking a detour with the electro-pop of Punx Soundcheck feat. Gene Serene before finally settling with the laid-back neu-reggae of Jammin' Unit feat. Yaneq. Berlin Insane IV once again proves to be the only compilation series available which gives an accurate view of who are the mainstays and the new faces of the Berlin music scene.
V.A. Grindweh 2007 7" A Tree In A Field
Grindcore to the ultimate end, my friend! Once this 7 is mounted on the recordplayer it delivers you some very short and totally fucked up noise sequences (they are actually nano-songs by such bands as FLIMMER, KRUEGER 23 and SPECK) - for as long as you may need it. Each featured song in its locked groove theoretically garantees you hours or centuries of non-stop-entertainment, but for health and some other more or less obvious reasons it is suggested to turn it off during sleeping hours."

Walter, Weasel Quartet Revolt Music 2006 CD ugExplode
"A violent old-school free jazz onslaught! They don't make them like this anymore . . . and the best is yet to come. Speed, energy and fury rule this release from beginning to end! more than an hour of blistering high energy free jazz featuring Weasel Walter on drums with Damon Smith and Randy Hunt (basses), John Gruntfest, Aram Shelton and Josh Allen (saxophones) and Henry Kaiser (guitar). It's a quartet, so only four of these guys play at a time! Awesome live and studio recordings from 2005-2006 will set the tone for things to come: fans of Ayler/Brotzmann/Cecil Taylor look no further - this is the new wave of violent free jazz. take no prisoners!" CD // 8 tracks.
Wishart, Trevor Journey Into Space 2002 CD Paradigm
Journey Into Space was his first release, composed between 1970 and 72, and was privately pressed (shortly before the formation of YES records), as two separate LP's in 1973. (The CD cover amalgamates the 2 original designs). Along with other early private releases of experimental music in the UK (ie the LP of sound poems by Cobbing/Jandl, or the LP of musique concrète by Desmond Leslie), this record is also a total anomaly in the canon of British experimental music and has little to do with the current, or even subsequent work by Wishart. The vast length of this piece has many different styles.
Wishart, Trevor Machine 2008 CD Paradigm
"Although Machine was completed in 1971 it was not released until 1973, shortly after the release of Journey Into Space. Machine is therefore the first major composition by Trevor Wishart. It was composed at York University and was originally issued on vinyl as 3 sides of a highly adventurous 3LP box set called Electronic Music From York, released by the University's own record label." CD // 5 tracks. // 59:21 mins.
Xela The Illuminated 2009 LP Dekorder
The music of Xela is not easily described. The alias of Type Records main-man John Twells, he has over the last decade moved through a dense fog of musical styles from abstract electronics to rusty soundscapes. In recent years his output has allied itself with darker realms, taking a liberal dose of influence from Norway's darker exponents, but retaining a deep and measured experimental focus.
PSF (JAPAN):
Fushitsusha 1st (Live) 2CD 1997 PSF
"This is where it all began. One of the first releases on the then fledgling PSF label was a DLP by Fushitsusha, Keiji Haino's ultimate rock unit." Live recording. Usually referred to as "Live 1" or "1st". Originally released as a double LP in 1989. 2CD // 8 tracks.
Abe, Kaoru Solo 1971 CD 1994 PSF
"Abe is legendary reeds improviser in Japanese free music scene. He's dead at 29. Sounds like keen knife! This is his earliest recording we ever heard. All are previously unreleased." Saxophone [Alto], Clarinet [Bass]. CD // 4 tracks.
Abe, Kaoru Solo 1972 CD 1994 PSF
"Another side of Abe. Warm and tenderly sounds. This is also previously unreleased." CD // 3 tracks.
Abe, Kaoru Solo, Thursday Evening 1972 CD 2003 PSF
"Kaoru Abe was criminally under-recorded during his peak period of the early seventies, but this disk goes some way towards redressing the balance. Instinctive and inspirational playing that burns with a unique white intensity, coupled with a dizzying sense of lonely speed. Just fabulous." CD // 3 tracks.
Abe, Kaoru/Yamazaki, Hiroshi Jazz Bed CD 2000 PSF
"The resourceful drummer on the duo date, Hiroshi Yamazaki, is probably best known for his twenty plus year association with the late guitarist Masayuki Takayanagi in the revolutionary New Directions group." CD // 2 tracks.
Ahousen S.T. CD 2007 PSF
"Lunatic avant-free-rock, honed in guerrilla street performance. Debut album from one of the most exciting discoveries from the recent Tokyo Flashback 6 compilation. There's an entrancing sense of moon-kissed lunatic wildness about Ahousen (the group's name means Ship of Fools). Their avant-rock meets free jazz meets enka melancholic sound is entirely their own, a crazed communion with dead voices, honed to blistering perfection in guerrilla performance on the night-time streets of Shinjuku. For those of a genealogical bent, the group has some history. Guitarist Katsu played with original Tokyo Rockers legends Lizard in the seventies. Drummer Tail has played with Suishou no Fune." CD // 4 tracks.
Aural Fit II CD 2008 PSF
"The reincarnation of the in-the-red psych aesthetics of early High Rise. One of the biggest underground psych/noise rock discoveries of the last five years were Tokyo-based Aural Fit. A heavy, bludgeoning cudgel of a band, all distorted grime and redlined aggression, their 2004 self-released first album burst over the scene like a big bag of heavy spanners. They followed up with a track on Tokyo Flashback 5, but then line-up changes seemed to sideline their juddering, thundering rock juggernaut." CD // 4 tracks.
Bailey, Derek/Hano, Shoji Fish CD 2001 PSF
"This is Bailey's first record with Japanese powerhouse drummer Shoji Hano, recorded at Moat Studios in London in June 2000. Hano is best known outside of Japan for his brief tenure as drummer in speedfreak rock band High Rise. " CD // 4 tracks.
Bertoia, Harry Unfolding CD 1993 PSF

There's a fascinating atonality to the sound of her kokyu, a sound that exists in between the cracks of organized tones and rhythm.
D!O!D!O!D! Ghost Temple CD 2006 PSF
"Fantastic album of pure guitar and drums brutality (and the first non-Japanese release for PSF in several years) from the greatest noise musician in China, Li Jianhong. Long resident in Hangzhou, Li has released several records on his own 2pi label, including solo noise work for TV monitors and an album by his avant-rock unit Second Skin. He also curates the annual 2pi noise festival in Hangzhou. He played in at the Nuit Blanche festival in Paris in 2004, and this will be his second non-Chinese release. It is kind of amazing to think that China has already managed to produce a musician as au fait as Li Jianhong obviously is with the whole free noise aesthetic. D!O!D!O!D! is a full-on duo with drummer Huang Jin that mines the rich seams previously explored by Munehiro Narita¹s Kyoaku no Intention and Rudolph Grey¹s Blue Humans. Endlessly thrilling free psych-noise guitar blurt that bundles up enough flailing electric energy to illuminate half of Shanghai."
Doo-Dooettes/Haino, Keiji/Potts, Rick Free Rock CD 2002 PSF
"Dennis Duck (ds), Fredrik Nilsen (b), Tom Recchion (mock cello, strangaphone), Keiji Haino (g), Rick Potts (g) Recorded in 1982. A definite, honest-to-goodness blast from out of the deepest vaults, bringing together Haino and a trio of wildly surreal pranksters from the Los Angeles Free Music Society scene. An amazing archive find! " CD // 1 track // 34,54 mins.
Furusawa, Ryojiro/Mikami, Kan Buriki/Tin CD 2008 PSF
"A sparse and stripped-back yet fully impassioned meditation on time, history and freedom. Surreal folk meets free jazz. Two tracks, including a 24 minute, one-take masterpiece. Ryojiro Furusawa is one of Japan's most respected jazz drummers, having played from the late 60s with everyone from Yosuke Yamashita and Sadao Watanabe to Yuji Imamura, Maki Asakawa and Shang Shang Typhoon. He's also been a long time collaborator with Kan Mikami, appearing on Kann's Bang! album in 1974. Kan Mikami is Japan's wisest and wildest folk-poet, a surreal master of the non-sequieter blues, a worldclass howler of truth and passion. This is the duo's third album, following Shokugyo (1987) and Dereki (2007)." CD // 8 tracks // Gatefold high-gloss papersleeve, including lyrics in Japanese and English.
Fushitsusha Live 2 2CD 1991 PSF

Fushitsusha 4 CD 1994 PSF
4th album of the great psych heavy free rock group around guitarist Keiji Haino. CD // 4 tracks.
Fushitsusha Origin's Hesitation CD 2001 PSF
"The no overdubs policy remains, though both Haino and bassist Ozawa work with realtime loops. The unique dynamic hallmarks of the group are preserved, the focus on individual sounds and their interaction underlined. Attack, duration, beginnings and endings all merge into one heartrending, emotionally eternal present. " CD // 6 tracks // Comes in a gatefold paper-sleeve with a 16 page booklet of photographs and lyrics in Japanese.
Fushitsusha Eien No Houga Saki Ni Te O Dashitanosa CD 2003 PSF
"From 1978, the earliest group recordings by Fushitsusha yet to be released. A vital document for understanding the Japanese underground and the truest, most exciting rock group of the contemporary era. " CD // 2 tracks.
Gayle, Charles Solo In Japan CD PSF
This is a document of one of the solo gigs by the modern sax legend and presumed bearer of the hallowed flame of Black American free jazz when he made his first trip to Japan.
Gendai Sokkyo S.T. CD 2007 PSF
"Another piece of ineffable mystery from the deepest bowels of the Tokyo underground. Led by flautist and guitarist Masahiro Deguchi, Gendai Sokkyo (the name means Contemporary Improvisation) are a group with no discernable history, who seem to have sprung from nothing to fully formed life. As the name suggests, the group showcase an improvisatory fusion of methodology and sound palette, drawing upon free jazz/free improvisation, avant rock moves and the textures of contemporary classical. An explosion of weird dynamics, suggestive in its inclusiveness and entirely psychedelic in its approach." CD // 3 tracks.
Haino, Keiji Affection CD 1992 PSF
"His 3rd solo album. Noisy, but more tender than previous approach! Full of dark and lyrical atmosphere. Another side of Haino!" CD // 1 track // 58:05 mins.
Haino, Keiji Watashi-Dake? CD 1993 PSF
The extreme personal depth that every Haino release exudes. This CD adds previously unreleased track of 28 minutes!" Originally released on Pinakotheca on LP (PRL #2 - released 1981). Tracks 1, 7, 13 : CD only extra live tracks. CD // 13 tracks // comes with a booklet of lyrics and photographs.
Haino, Keiji The 21st Century Hard-Y-Guide-Y-Man CD 1995 PSF
"Haino uses a hurdy gurdy, runs it through his battery of effects and winds up with a large whoosh of noise not unlike Tony Conrd's violin." CD // 4 tracks.
Haino, Keiji To Start With, Let's Remove The Colour! CD 2002 PSF
"Gorgeous new bag of home-recorded mystery from Haino. Apparently recorded alone, late at night and at minimal volume, these latest recordings tremble with the same deep-welled emotional sensitivity and sense of veiled threat that animated classics like Watashi Dake?, Affection and Era of Sad Wings. " CD // 8 tracks.
Haino, Keiji Hikari Yami Uchitokeaishi Konohibiki CD 2003 PSF
"First album of solo guitar by Keiji Haino in quite some time, but very much a departure from the mountain-levelling, continent-sundering, weather-system huge electric guitar releases of years past. The title roughly translates as 'Light darkness melting into one this vibration' Haino advises the listener to play as loud as possible surely a first on an album of acoustic guitar. CD // 3 tracks.
Haino, Keiji Uchu Ni Karami Tsuiteiru Waga Itami CD 2005 PSF
"Another step into previously unexplored territory for Haino--his first ever all-electronic album. Uchu ni karami tsuiteiru waga itami (the title means roughly 'Tangled up in the universe, my pain') sees Haino using a bewildering range of electronic instruments." CD // 4 tracks.
Haino, Keiji/Phillips, Barre/Toyozumi, Sabu S.T. CD 1994 PSF
"This is the first contact of B.Phillips, maestro of improvised bass, and K.Haino! New dimentions of the shape of improvisation to come!" CD // 4 tracks.
Haino, Keiji/Sato, Michihiro Tayutayuto Tadayoitamae Kono Furue CD 2004 PSF
"Sato's first studio meeting with Keiji Haino sees a rare melding of open minds and taut strings. Common languages are invented, experimented with and discarded at will. Haino revisits the evocative nylon-strung guitar style he first explored on Hikair yami uchitokeaish kono hibiki (PSFD-8017), laying down fields and forests of string texture, while Sato burns blazing trails of narrow-beam intensity straight through the middle of your skull. CD // 7 tracks.
High Rise Disallow CD 1996 PSF
"Fifth album. Five tracks of intense madness. There's not really much more that can be said about High Rise - they're simply one of the greatest heavy psych rock groups you're ever going to hear. " CD // 5 tracks.
High Rise Psychobomb - U.S. Tour 2000 CD 2000 PSF
"First live High Rise album on PSF since the still astounding peak of "Live" (PSFD-48)." Recorded at I-Spy, Seattle on March 10, 2000 (tracks 3,6,7), and Tonic, NYC on March 14, 2000 (tracks 1,2,4,5). CD // 7 tracks.
High Rise Best Of High Rise: Destination CD 2002 PSF
"High Rise's twentieth anniversary album includes their classic PSF releases and two previously unreleased tracks: a studio version of live favourite "Ikon", and a new piece called "Heavenly Power". High Rise are the band that kick-started a label and a scene. They're the power-trio to end all power-trios. " CD // 12 tracks.
Hirano, Go Reflections Of Dreams CD 1995 PSF
"Hirano's second album is a compilation of fourteen short tracks - delicate, almost hesitant in places, gorgeously lyrical in others - a real contrast to the buzzing harshness of his last album." Piano, Melodica [Pianica], Wind Chimes, Glockenspiel, Voice - Go Hirano. CD // 14 tracks.
Imai, Kazuo How Will We Change? CD 1995 PSF
"Solo improvised works, recorded live in September and October 1993. Imai studied under the guidence of Masayuki Takayanagi, and played on occasion with the New Direction ensemble. An essential release for anyone interested in the current state of Japanese free improvisation and sound exploration!" CD // 7 tracks.
Iro Tamafuri CD 2008 PSF
Recorded on November 1985 at Saginuma Studio. Originally released on cassette in 1985. An improvising, shamanic noise duo (guitar, vocals, percussion) from Japan. These guys have been playing together for over 28 years. CD // 2 tracks // 60 mins.
Ishitsuka, Toshi/Mikami, Kan /Satoh, Michihiro/Yon, Shin He Fukon CD 1998 PSF
"Female Korean percussionist/vocalist Shin He Yon met Kan Mikami at a festival in Iwaki in 1997. With similar rural shamanic cultural backgrounds the two immediately hit it off, played together, and they were easily coaxed into the studio to lay down some tracks of transcendent cultural detente." CD // 6 tracks.
Ishizuka, Toshiaki Drum Drama CD 2006 PSF
"Drum Drama is Toshi's third album of solo percussion. The first, Kaze no Yami, was released in a miniscule edition in 1991. Since a full reissue is for various reasons impossible, Toshi has included two mesmerizing pieces from Kaze no Yami here, alongside three new pieces. Toshi has a unique approach that blends overtly textural work (rubbing cymbals, rolling metallic balls, bowed gongs) with mountain-deep kick-drum bombs and flashes of staccato martial snares. The results are deeply evocative nocturnal landscapes of immense percussive variety, subtle, lyrical, cinematic and even soulful." CD // 5 tracks.
Keiji, Haino/Phillips, Barre Etchings In The Air CD 1996 PSF
"This is just a beautiful release, lots of room for both performers to move, nonstop inventiveness, emotional communication beyond words (even some humour!)." Recorded on February 1, 1996 at Studio J. CD // 5 tracks.
Knead 1st CD 2002 PSF 18,00 "Knead is a new unit which brings together two of the most unmistakable voices in the Japanese underground, juddering prog-thrash duo Ruins, and master of all darkness he surveys Keiji Haino. Recorded live at Manda-la2 in December 2001." CD // 8 tracks.
Kondo, Hideaki Structures CD 2007 PSF
"First solo album by Hideaki Kondo, leader of Japan leading improvisation collective, EXIAS-J. Kondo is known for the theoretical rigour that lies behind his technical mastery of the guitar, and for the multiplicity of his methodologies, encompassing free jazz, avant-garde, rock and folk forms. As in the playing of the late Masayuki Takayanagi, there is an originality and clarity of thought, a combination of historical understanding and contemporary intentionality, in Kondo¹s approach to guitar improvisation that is simply stunning. This first solo album presents Kondo largely on ten-string gut guitar, moving with an uncanny grace and concentration from stone melodic beauty to densely structured improv violence. Fabulous support work from Exias-J regular Kondo, and sometime Keiji Haino collaborator Michio Karimata." CD // 6 tracks.
Konitz, Lee Unaccompanied live In Yokohama CD 1996 PSF
This disk is Konitz's first solo disk in 22 years (and it also features him in a duo with Takayanagi pupil Kazuo Imai). The first five tracks here a 45 minute solo medley, which displays Konitz's unique structural sense and refined tone.
Kosokuya/Urabe, Masayoshi The Dark Spot CD PSF
Kosokuya are one of Japan's more mysterious psychedelic inner-space rock groups with an obscure history dating back to the late seventies. Great sensitive + heavy playing, lovely vocal action from Kaneko, and Urabe's unique atmospherics.
Kousokuya Live Gyakuryu Kokuu CD 2004 PSF
"These newly uncovered live recordings date back to 1991, the year that the group's debut album was released. Two long tracks of grinding, soaring blackhole sonics that chart the empty gulfs of tension-space like no one save Fushitsusha. Don't pass up this chance to catch a barely acknowledged group-mind at a rarely glimpsed peak of staggering beauty and dynamic force." CD // 2 tracks.
Kousokuya 1979 First Live CD 2006 PSF
Miraculously unearthed live tape from one of the earliest incarnations of Tokyo heavy psychedelic legends Kousokuya. For a group with a 25-year history on the Tokyo underground scene, Kousokuya have left very little imprint of their activities. Once heard, though, their sound is unmistakeable ?Ea grinding, soaring sonic-blackhole that charts the empty gulfs of tension-space like no one else this side of Fushitsusha. This tape, recorded at legendary seventies Tokyo underground venue Minor, captures Kousokuya at a formative stage in their existence ?EMick's blank, disembodied howl is present and correct, as is the choppy brilliance of Kaneko's guitar playing. But the real surprise is synth player Hiroshi Yokoyama, who lasted just a few gigs with the group. He contributes great clots of synth-blurt to the mix, wailing and derailing, the soul of this group's genetic instability." CD // 3 tracks.
Lost Aaraaf S.T. CD 1991 PSF
"Haino's first group, live recorded in '71! Bizarre voice + piano + drums. Incredible & historical recordings." Drums - Shime Takahashi, Vocals, Guitar, Saxophone - Keiji Haino, The recording also contains an unidentified pianist.CD // 3 tracks.

Mikami, Kan 13/4,900,089,658 CD 2000 PSF
"Mikami's tenth solo album on PSF (a new one appears every March), and originally planned as the concluding statement in a coherently and expansive ten-part rumination on contemporary Japan. Available as a single disk or as part of the commemorative box set that celebrated Mikami's 30th year as Japan's most wilfully obtuse social critic, conscience and celebrant." CD // 9 tracks.
Mikami, Kan Lesbos CD 2002 PSF
""The 11th solo album. This time out the topics include the mystery of Michael Jordan, the rain in Rome, and cans of pineapple chunks. Just like Heraclitus's river, Mikami's world defines it eternity through constant flux. "" CD // 9 tracks.

Mikami, Kan/Ishizuka, Toshiaki Shinshi-No-Yuuutsu CD 2001 PSF

Musica Transonic (Keiji Haino) S.T. CD PSF
This unlikely chemistry sees them teaming up with Keiji Haino for a series of epic, bruising collisions. Especially check out the tracks with Haino trading licks with Kawabata.
Onna Katawa CD 2007 PSF
"The musical alter ego of obsessive pointillist underground cartoonist and illustrator Keizo Miyanishi, Onna have been in varying liminal stages of musical existence/non-existence since the early eighties. Their bleak and nihilistic no-wave downer sound riveted the Tokyo scene of the time --an early line-up featured a pre-White Heaven Michio Kurihara. But after a couple of years and just one single, the group faded back into silence, becoming the stuff of rumour and faded memories. It was kind of shocking then to have a reformed Onna suddenly doing the rounds of Tokyo clubs a year or so back." CD // 6 tracks // Gatefold, Papersleeve.
Phillips, Barre/Motoharu, Yoshizawa Uzu CD 1996 PSF
"Two of the world's master freeform bassists in lush textural showdown." Recording date February 8, 1996. CD // 5 tracks.
Sanhedolin Manjo Icchiwa Muko CD 2005 PSF
"Sanhedolin are a ludicrously amped-up and heavy new power trio, featuring Keiji Haino, Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins) and Mitsuru Nasuno (Ruins). Haino brings aggressive anguish and allconsuming black fire, Yoshida and Nasuno supply a sack-full of convulsive time-shifting and complex kinetic acceleration. Haino and Yoshida have been working together on and off for the past three or four years in a number of duo and trio contexts, including a tour of China and Taiwa
