Bussotti, Sylvano - Piano Works 1999 CD Mode
Sylvano Bussotti is a modern Renaissance artist. A renowned composer, he is also a pianist, painter, writer, filmmaker, actor, illustrator, set designer, director, and costume designer for both theater and opera. He was a proponent of open form" and graphic notation scoring long before his contemporaries; many of his scores are veritable works of visual art. Exhibitions of his scores, paintings, drawings, decors and costumes have been seen the world over. Born in Florence, Italy, in 1931, Bussotti was close to the avant-garde musical world of the sixties without ever really being a part of the movement, due to his deep-seated opposition to all rigid systems of composition. He studied with Luigi Dallapiccola and Max Deutsch. His meetings with Pierre Boulez and Heinz-Klaus Metzger eventually led him to Darmstadt and its center for avant-garde research, where he came to know John Cage and David Tudor. Bussotti's first great successes would come with works performed by Tudor and the singer Cathy Berberian."

Büttner, Gregory/Davies, Rhodri - 3 Harp Treatments 2009 CD Anthropometrics
Rhodri Davies and Gregory Büttner met in Hamburg and decided to work together. Davies sent Büttner three short solo harp improvisations to work with. Out of those sourcings Büttner generated a most alive, sbizarre and chalenging form of concrete-abstract electronic music. '3 harp treatments' is a fine example of a fresh and new approach to the integration of acoustic and digital sound. It will appeal to fans of the work by Asmus Tietchens, Luc Ferrari or Jacob Kirkegaard. '3 harp treatments' is also an extension of the original concept of the Anthropometrics series on aufabwegen. This is the first non-vinyl release in the series and the first work, that has not been recorded live and as a middle-of the moment improvisation.

Déficit Des Années Antérieures - Action and Japanese Demonstration 2008 CD Fractal
Action and Japanese Demonstration" is considered by many fans as one of the best DDAA's works to date. A fascinating album ! 10 actions and poetic demonstrations like japanese woodblock prints (ukiyo-e), refined and entrancing atmospheres, drew and played by the 3 dadaïsts with synths, vocals, chorus, crazy guitars, percussions, rhythms box, flutes and noises + Bernard C and Marcel Kanche on sax.

Dru - L'Aiguille 2008 CD Headlightsrecordings
[...] David Maranha (organ), Manuel Mota (electric guitar), Riccardo Dillon Wanke (fender rhodes) are the musicians involved in Dru. The first two, portuguese by birth, the third by adoption. Their music is silent, improvised, with some jazz reminiscences. L'Aiguille" could be misinterpreted as cold and cerebral, unnarrative, the result of a series of encounters, but approaching its seven tracks in the right mood (I would dare to say "religious") we will discover that these are seven of the infinite possible combinations of a divine whims craps game. Seven configurations of notes, among infinite possibilities, saved from silence catastrophe by these musicians that are not afraid to face it." (Vincenzo Santarcangelo, rockerilla magazine 02/2009)

Electronicat/Zonk't - Coccyx 2001 12" Sound On Probation
Strong and massive downtempo combined with noisy sound manipulations.

Fauz't - From The Frozen South 2009 CD Atavistic
Faust were the certainly among the leaders of Germany's Krautrock" movement back in the early 70s. Ensconced in "The Pantheon" forever as truly visionary artists, their early records still sound light-years ahead of their time now, 30+ years later here in the Century Number 21. FROM THE FROZEN SOUTH features original Faust mainman Hans Joachim Irmler joining forces with the iconic 'scape artist/percussionist Z'EV, at FAUST Studios in Scheer, Germany. The topologically-charged results range from spacious and soothing through full-on digital brutality; each piece is subtly tinged with both artist's distinct & respective take on the out-rock they helped create. FROZEN SOUTH offers a reflection of the sounds these two legends have created & incorporated over the last 30 years, plus new ideas and experiments- each distilled through this once-in-a-lifetime collaboration. An incredible sonic journey made by two of the genre's pioneers to be sure; a monument to the avant garde, perhaps... but steadfastly, as always: of and for the People!"

Heal - Starting Back 2007 CD Sound On Probation
Not in this year chief of French experimental label sound on probation doesn't stay behind and comes with new production of project Heal, that putting in the box of certain genre will be hard for anyone, who has seen under the cover of this electro confession. For sure this work is dedicated to all, who rather like instrumental electronics and experimenting. Every song moves in different aspects and there are always present different combinations of genres and ideas. Minimalistic sequences and often mixing of alternative genres follows these various walk on electro landscapes. Often you can hear in the songs strong bass lines and often sound wanders in triphop landscapes. Sometimes you can hear in the songs rock patterns and in different case your road leads through modern scale of idm frequencies, as is the case in the song Autodrome. Analogue sounds inclines often to experimenting from the 80's. For a long time I haven't heard various combination of genres, although not in every track. It's great to hear how you can make a work with various styles. (Aliens.sk/Ryby (February 2007))

Miguel, Sei - Still Alive In Bairro Alto 2001 CD Headlightsrecordings
Sei Miguel is a composer, trumpeter and all round experimental jazzman, born in Paris but now living in Portugal. Still Alive in Bairro Alto presents one long piece, performed live and just over forty minutes in length, featuring contributions by a host of performers, with Sei Miguel overseeing the project as trumpeter and director. The players: Fala Mariam, alto trombone, Manuel Mota, first guitar, Tiago Brandão, guitar, Margarida Garcia, twin (?), and Monsieur Trinité and César Burago on percussion. The piece has the outward appearance of a freely improvised structure, but all the music has been scored (although it seems there may have been some room for improvisation). The spirit is playful, the performances spirited yet restrained, challenging yet never too heavy or overbearing; there's never a moment when things seem out of control or off course, but the piece presents a single vision with many colours and phrases... I might call it experimental jazz, light edition. (Richard di Santo, Incursion, 2002)

Miguel, Sei - Ra Clock 2002 CD Headlightsrecordings
More excellent stuff by Miguel. In this exciting release, Sei prefers avoiding the muted trumpet for most of the record's duration, instead opting for a clear, open tone that duets with a lot of perfectly matching voices, such as in the wonderful second track where clay drums, organ and trombone give life to a magic mixture, taking a dose of Jon Hassell's exotic twists and launching them in a nightmare made of oblique views and nocturnal noises. I also appreciated the melancholic piano piece coming right after, sort of a distant sigh by a forgotten soul. Miguel and his colleagues - among them an excellent female bass player named Margarida Garcia and a great trombone player, Fala Mariam - once again captured my attention, never exagerating, just sligthly opening a little window over themselves. (Massimo Ricci, Touching Extremes, 2003)

Mota, Manuel - Quartets 2004 CD Headlightsrecordings
It could be assumed that Quartets" is the most mature and accomplished work by Manuel Mota, whose multipurpose fingers run after myriads of wrecked chords and whirlwind fragments; he does it without catching any of those strolling notes which would love transforming themselves into the ghost of whitebread "jazz". Fala Mariam's trombone gabbling enables the musicians to follow shadows, revealing a tendence to disobey conventions while bending air and natural reverberation to will. Fabulous punches and enigmatic caresses come from the upright bass of Margarida Garcia, one of the most interesting explorers of the lower range area in today's improvisation; finally, the carillon touches by Cesar Burago find their due place all around the pieces, creating their own graft of terminology and contributing to the release of some accumulated introversion. Together, these four players have conceived a most interesting conversation, sustaining 40 minutes brilliantly without any pyrotechnics." (Massimo Ricci, Touching Extremes, 2005)

Mota, Manuel - Outubro 2006 2CD Headlightsrecordings
Solo improvisations on electric and acoustic guitar. "He improvises songs, standards, traditionals, repeated lines, landscapes, attacks, chords, gaps, suites, links, bridges and language. He Strings them. While listening to this music i start to see Picasso drawing on a glass in front of Clouzot..s camera in »Le Mystere Picasso«." (Noël Akchoté, skug 70, 2007)

Mota, Manuel - Sings 2009 CD Headlightsrecordings
Fragile and abstract improvisations on electric guitar. Recorded 2008

Müller, Thierry (Ilitch) - Rare & Unreleaded 1974-1984 2007 CD Fractal
First album under his own name. This compilation is the best works of Thierry Müller during his first 10 years 1974/1984! Titled clearly, all tracks presented are rares and almost all are published here for the first time and came from the all 5 differents formations of TM's early days: ARCANE (Never released before – 1974 TM's first band, dark underground madness), ILITCH (Unreleased live recordings 1975), BREAKING POINT (Never released before – 1978 genius-synthi-pop), RUTH (1978 rare tracks, trash punk romantic) and CRASH (1984 with Philippe Doray – Warning: the track Pile ou Face" is possible to be the best electro-pop song writing in all France in the 80's, absolute chef-d'Å“uvre). Selected carefully from all TM's archives, this music will be without a doubt, the holy grail for all Ilitch's and Ruth's fanatics. Full of creativity, imagination and energy, this album is definitely the level higher. All tracks here are french underground masterpiece! CD edition, booklet 20 pages with many unreleased pictures and liner notes."

Musique Concret - Bringing Up Baby 2004 CD Fractal
Reissue of a rare UK album from 1981. Musique Concret were an obscur London duo composed by Jim Friedman & Michael Mullen with a short lived musical history : their sole album “Bringing up baby” was originally released on Steven Stapleton's label United Dairies and there is also one short track on compilation. This is a great experimental power electronics works with the use of many delay and echo, tape recorder manipulations, collages, rhythms box, noise, and others studio trickery, naturally close to Nurse With Wound first period, Faust or others german 70's innovative bands. Completely forgotten nowadays, “Bringing up baby” is really much more than just an interesting curiosity, it's a true highly original recordings from the early 80's. A lost jewel !

Myers, David/Arcane Device - Engine Of Myth 2003 CD ReR Megacorp
In 1988, I received a tape from David Myers consisting of music made purely from the internal conflicts of machines; sounds made from no sound - no input, only output emerging from the unstoppable flow of electrons within and across machines plugged into one another the 'wrong' way; these outputs then being controlled by David in real time using a mixing desk. The sounds were exquisite: ethereal, glassy, powerful, gritty, rich and strange by turns - and surprisingly varied. Clearly too, this was no surprised experiment but a mastered and subtle new instrument. This CD reissues that historic release, along with extra contemporaneous material. And now that input-less music has re-emerged in Japan - though with a totally different aesthetic - it is informative as well as fascinating to revisit this earlier, and very different, work. This is great music: shifting strange masses of unidentifiable sound moving in mesmeric and organic waves as - unhindered by any originary impulse -electricity sings.

Nihilist Spasm Band - No Nihilist Spasm Band In Mulhouse 2006 LP Les Mondes Mental
Live at la Salle St. Fridolin, Mulhouse 1 June 2004 during the second NSB european tour. With John Boyle : kazoo & drums, John Clement : guitar & drums, Bill Exley : voice & pan, Murray Favro : guitar & drums, Hugh McIntyre : bass, Art Pratten : Prat-A-Various. Full colors sleeve, insert with liner notes & discography and a Nihilist Spasm Band sticker. Sleeve art & design by Miss Candy. The Nihilist Spasm Band began in the summer of 1965 in London, Ontario as an informal kazoo band of friends making a soundtrack for a film by the late artist Greg Curnoe. We soon built new, louder electric instruments. We played noise music because we did not know how to play real music. In 1969 we toured Europe for the first time, playing at the Paris Biennale des Jeunes and at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, England. It was not until 2004 that we toured Europe again, playing at Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy's festival Musique Action, in Montreuil, in Hasselt, Belgium and in Mulhouse. This proved to be the last tour for Hugh McIntyre, our bassist for 39 years. Three months later he died of heart failure. The very last night he played at our regular Monday night gig, members of REM showed up and jammed with us till 2 in the morning. Hugh had a wonderful time and went to hear their concert the next evening. This final recording of Hugh with the Spasm Band in Mulhouse is dedicated to his memory. John Boyle

Olhon - Lucifugus 2009 10"LP Substantia Innominata
"This shows the collab-project of BAD SECTOR & WHERE recording pure sounds from an abandoned large metal water tank located in a forest in Tuscany, Italy (originally used by miners from that region). Both tracks are based entirely on these field recordings. Orange vinyl & stunning artwork by Berlin-based artworker Tilmann Benninghaus who was also responsible for the highly praised CISFINITUM cover (SUB-04). Edition of 500 copies. Lucifugus music for Lucifugus men!" 10" // lim. 500 on orange vinyl.

Pansonic - Katodivaihe/Cathodephase 2007 CD Blast First Petite
These 2006 recordings that make up this album features the continued extension and development of their trademarked “warm” electronic sound as per album bookends “Virta 1& 2”, and dub techniqued pummeling rythmns (“Tugboat”) and the Heavy Metal pound of “Machinist” PAN SONIC have remained true to their original and pioneering use of their special handmade analog tone generators, more old radio set than synthesisers, with the occasional use of digital samplers for the more rhythmic sounds. They still record live to DAT tape in real time with no overdubbing.

Parmegiani, Bernard - JazzEx 2004 CD Fractal
This album is a collection of early works from the late 60's by the french electro-acoustic composer Bernard PARMEGIANI. Born in Paris (1927) and rich of a “catalogue des oeuvres” of more than 60 pieces, including classics such as “Violistries” 1965, “La Roue Ferris” 1971, “Pour en finir avec le pouvoir d'Orphée” 1971/72, “De Natura Sonorum” 1974/75, the 4 pieces presented in this edition is a perfect exemple for discovering the unusual territories and the eclectism language of the composer: “JazzEx” for electronic tape and Jazz Quartet (Jean-Louis Chautemps: saxophone, Bernard Vitet: trompet, Charles Saudrais: drums, Gilbert Rovère: bass) create at the Festival de Royan in 1966. “Pop Eclectic” 1969, is an electro-acoustic divertimento composed for the Peter Foldés movie. “Du pop à l'âne” 1969, is a collage plunderphonics work. And “Et après” 1973, is an electronic tango featuring Michel Portal on bandoneon. The present version is unreleased and was recorded live at the Festival Manca in 1996. Liner notes by Jean-Louis Chautemps.

Parmegiani, Bernard - Chants Magnétiques 2007 CD Fractal
Here is a MASTERPIECE of electronic music! French musician Bernard Parmegiani - see his biography in the previous CD release on Fractal JAZZEX" Fractal 028 – has composed CHANTS MAGNETIQUES in 1974, one of the most sough after Bernard Parmegiani's album – a monster rarity which is almost impossible to find. This obscure album was composed around the same time as DE NATURA SONORUM during the mid-seventies, a particularly important and effervescent era for Bernard Parmegiani. Indeed, as if one can say that DE NATURA SONORUM is one of the best Parmegiani's "serious" works in terms of technics-sound-harmonic-tone, then there is no doubt that CHANTS MAGNETIQUES is his chef-d'œuvre on his "dark side", the "Parmegiani's hidden face" that few peoples knows nowadays. A collection of 9 united tracks under the title album name CHANTS MAGNETIQUES/MAGNETIC FIELDS - titled before Jean Michel Jarre's album - and musically, in summary, more experimental, more organic, more spacey in compare to his famous INA-GRM works."

Perrier, Laurent - Downfall / Disperse 2006 2CD Sound On Probation
With his new label Laurent Perrier active with different projects (Pylône, Zonk't and Heal along with his self named project, to name few) but it's the first time that he releases something under his real name. The double CD DOWNFALL/DISPERSE contains two long magmatic suites about 50 minutes long where ambient droning sounds meet idm like click and pops following cyclic structures. “Downfall” starts quietly and little by little sounds are added creating an avalanche effect just to end with a sort of electronic distorted buzz. “Disperse” is more quiet and since its beginning the structure is defined and it mutates during its whole length. The two tracks are part of the soundtracks of an Alban Richard – Ensemble dance theatrical piece and this double CD is a sort of documentation. The tracks could also work without the theatrical counterpart if you are used to long experimental suites, if not, you have been warned… (Chaindlk/Maurizio Pustianaz (october 2006))

Perrier, Laurent - As Far As 2008 CD Sound On Probation
Created for Alban Richard's choreographic show of the same name, “as far as” -slightly modified for its release on CD - is a sound structure built on classical music samples, off beat loops, collages, quotations. The album starts with a long, minimal, repetitive track - organ sequences and micro events reminding one of some of Charlemagne Palestine's pieces. “As far as” is a work where emotion prevails on abstraction, a long heady, cinematic development, a play on volumes and contrasts like hesitating between total anguish and peaceful contemplation. The musical form thus created is the prelude to an almost apocalyptic noise swoop which, in an oddly beautiful manner, finally transforms itself into a collage of orchestrated violins, illusion of infinity meeting a most abrupt end.

Pylône - Black Grains 2006 CD Sound On Probation
The room crammed with deep, dark and sweeping noises. It felt like I was wandering in a factory, where machinesounds had passed some fantastic effectors and were sweeped throughout the atmosphere. Black Grains" is not your regular, a walk through the park, music album. Calling it music might even been a bit over the top. These are epic soundscapes, rumbling around in your car, livingroom or wherever you play this CD. This cd really benefits from a large stereo of a hifi environment. The sound goes deeper, becomes more boombastic and the cripples, crackles and scratches are going right through your brain. Great." (Gothtronic/march 2006)

Pylône - Grounded Hands 2008 CD Sound On Probation
After Black Grains, Pylone's second album goes on developing micro sounds in closed environments. Grounded Hand is a mass in disarray, a collage of cracking and clicking sounds, clinical minimal repetitive heartbeat inviting listeners to follow its author through an experience of granular meditation, a dive into crunching, vibrating sound material. If the first part is made of harsh abstract compositions, the second part opens up to space, to cinematic, contemplative atmospheres.

Ramleh - Too Many Miles: Complete Singles 90-95 2000 CD Dirter Promotions

Rockey, Lee - Lee Rockey Music 2007 LP De Stijl 18,90
lee rockey was a hardswinging jazzbo who had mastered the modern style by '46, and became known as one of the vancouver whiz kids. he went to the city in '53, jammed with neil hefti, and appeared on the first few herbie mann recs (plays bethlehem BCP-58, east coast jazz / 4 bethlehem BCP-1018). upon his left coast return, he began developing his own sound / style, with an intent of transcending traditional musical forms / expectations. ju suk reet meate caught one of his performances in early '76, and lee became a figure of big inspiration. he'd eventually invite lee to play on a few early smegma recs. aside from a few record booth lathes cut in the 40s / 50s, this is his first solo release. on first spin there are a few brief moments when the sounds of toshi ichiyanagi come to mind, but these sounds inhabit a universe that is entirely that of lee rockey. tho the pieces contained on this rec were recorded from the yrs '59 to '73, they own a keen third eye prescience that portends the likes of c spencer yeh and axolotl.

Trygghet - Two View 2009 LP Atelier Musik
TRYGGHET began in 2006 with an elevator-ride in its hometown Amsterdam, a place with little need for elevators. The group consists of Martyn Heyne (Guitar/Hamburg), Sam Sowyrda (Vibraphone/NewYork) and Martin Hiltawski (Bass/Prüm). TRYGGHET's first record TWO VIEW deals with partially composed but to a large part improvised repetitive music, influenced by minimal, ambient, jazz, post-rock, and modern classical music. There is no soloing, but rather a common process of developing improvisation by all three musicians on the two pieces of TWO VIEW. Another foundation for the record's sound is the use of field-recordings of cars and trains to fill the sound-realm of the (absent) drummer while the musicians make an attempt on his rhythmical role. The field-recordings are to the music what film-music is to a film: they support and complement the story.

V.A. - México Electroacústico [1960-2007] 2008 3CD Irradia
'In 2002 the director and founder of the contemporary music festival Radar in Mexico, José Wolfer, asked me if I would do a retrospective of Mexican electroacoustic music for 2003. This idea seemed to me very valuable because such an event had never been organized in my country. I started to do a research and to take it further away, trying to gather more information in order to search a possible continuity in the history of Mexican electroacoustic music. I rescued old works that were lost; I aimed to provide a critical personal view of what happened here on the foundation days of this domain, in order to make up with the past, and tried to explain the problems and difficulties of its development. An article was finally published and presented in the musical magazine Pauta no. 89and in the ICMCproceedingsin Florida 2004). The publication of these CD's is the last phase of this project, where I have recently discovered new authors and Works from the past and present. I consider then that it represents a reduced and subjective sample of what has happened through our history, but that it nevertheless reflects what occurred. Finally, I will continue to enlarge an important sound archive conformed by compositions from 1960 to our days that sooner or later will have to become part of a specialized audio center in Mexico.' Composers from the first generation: Carlos Jiménez Mabarak, Manuel Enríquez, Manuel de Elías, Mario Lavista, Julio Estrada, Francisco Núñez, Héctor Quintanar. Composers from the second generation: Javier Álvarez, Roberto Morales Manzanares, Vicente Rojo Cama, Antonio Russek, Manuel Rocha Iturbide, Guillermo Galindo, Antonio Fernández Ros, Gabriela Ortiz, Alejandra Hernández. Composers from the third generation: Rodrigo Sigal, Juan Sebastián Lach, Sergio Luque, Víctor Romero, Guillermo Acevedo, Pablo García, Rogelio Sosa, Israel Martínez, Phantom Power (Miguel Hernandez and Pablo Gomez), Alejandro Montes de Oca, Arturo Fuentes.

Varèse, Edgard/Xenakis, Iannis - Volume 3: Xenakis & Varèse 1998 CD Mode
This remarkable disc brings together two leaders of the 20th century avant-garde: the early French iconoclast Edgard Varèse and Iannis Xenakis, who now lives in France. Varèse's influence on modern music is indisputable -- from the later avant-garde, to Frank Zappa to movie soundtracks -- all borrowed from Varèse's unique style. He has also had a direct influence on Xenakis muiscally and personally, where the two collaborated on Varèse's electronic work Poème Electronique for the Brussels Worlds Fair. Conductor Juan Pablo Izquierdo has had much experience directing Xenakis's music and other modern masterworks. Xenakis was invited by Izquierdo and Carnegie Mellon University for an extended visit featuring a festival of his music. All three works were prepared and recorded with the composer's supervisionl.

Walter & Sabrina - Two Tales. The Twilight Of Walter And Sabrina 2009 CD+BOOK Danny Dark
Ever the dark archeologists, Walter & Sabrina mine territory covered by Byron and Burroughs, Genet and Galas, yet add their own historical piece to the long line of artists unafraid to taste the distasteful and find an odd glory in it. Two Tales" might imply a finale to this project, begun several years ago by Walter Cardew and Stephen Moore. If so, they are going out in majestic, jaundiced style, and this time they deliver both haunting, deceptively romantic music and a novella sized book full of squalid and yearning characters for whom appetite is all. As is their wont, they make their observations deceptively wistful by couching them in operatic, classical suites. Chamber music has never been so menacing, however. Female sopranos Celia Lu and Laura Pooley, together with male counterpart Peter Crawford and counter-tenor Gunnar Brandt-Sigurdsson, add a disquieting lilt to the transgressive lyrics, an almost childlike quality that not only seems to mock the sentiment of the words, but yet also revel in them. In that sense, "Walter & Sabrina Play Classical Tale One," is the most horrific of the three songs here. "Untitled" quickens the pace a bit, and seems a relief. The rock band line-up, with the addition of tenor and alto sax and the sopranos, is comforting in its familiar structure, yet is likewise eerie and menacing. The Velvets ought to reunite again just to cover this. "Walter & Sabrina Play Pop Tale Two," also provides a familiar sonic foundation within which to stress that, even here, there is no real solid ground. Or, rather, as is made explicit in the included novella, the only solid ground is the self when it seeks what is wants. The rest is deprivation from that which is sought." Walter & Sabrina/Eichmann, Dietrich Ensemble - Demons! 2008 2CD Danny Dark
Desire is exploitation," the label notes for this ambitious two disc set proclaims. The demons get in any way they can, through laws that repress or through indulgence that never seems like it will ever be enough. "Demons!" explores the dread that accompanies our facing our own capacity for evil, as individuals and as a culture. Once again, Stephen Moore and Walter Cardew use orchestral and cabaret motifs to propel their horrific tales of sin and revenge.
Whitehouse - Birdseed 2009 2LP Very Friendly 22,90 Bird Seed was the transformational album following the release of the seismic Wriggle Like A Fucking Eel, where Whitehouse first shockingly employed all kinds of new technology, incorporating acoustic elements such as African djembes and doundouns for their sound, featured also on the extraodinary Cut Hands Has The Solution and Munkisi Munkondi (recently interpreted by the Berlin-based classical orchestra Zeitkratzer).

Wolff, Christian - Bread & Roses 1995 CD Mode
The recent set of piano works on this record stem from his "political" period, often drawing on material from popular song and other politically connected musics. The ELEVEN PRELUDES (1981) are a wonderful collection of self-contained pieces, each representing one principal idea or process. BREAD AND ROSES (1976) is based on a song of the same title (Sally Pinkas includes the original song on this disc) written during the great mill strike of 1912 in Lawrence, MA. The song caught the voices and asprirations of the women who took part in this infamous strike. PIANO SONG (I AM A DANGEROUS WOMAN) (1983) is based on Joan Cavanaugh's fierce anti-war poem. The last work, HAY UNA MUJER DESAPARECIDA (1979) is a set of variations on a song by Holly Near which was a lament for the women who "disappeared" in Pinochet's junta in Chile during the 1970s. Most of these works are RECORDED HERE FOR THE FIRST TIME. This disc is also important as one of the first all-Wolff recitals to be issued. Prepared under the composer's direction, the pieces are expertly played by Sally Pinkas. The Boston Globe had this to say: "...played with technical authority, a wide range of colorings, shadings...and imagination."

Wolff, Christian - I Like To Think Of Harriet Tubman - Vol 2 Chamber Works - 1998 CD Mode
Wolff is considered a member of The New York School" along with John Cage, Morton Feldman, Earle Brown and David Tudor. Following his meeting Cornelius Cardew and Frederic Rzewski in 1970s, his music has evolved to embrace a distinct language which resonates with a deep commitment to political and social concerns. This collection of chamber works tracks his various styles over a long time span."

The members of the quartet met while attending the Eastman School of Music, New York. Xenakis, Iannis - Ensemble Music 1 1996 CD Mode
Xenakis' oeuvre is unique in modern music--it is music of great visceral power, energy and sheer sound. Music from another world. Music that grabs the listener, riveting his attention.Conductor Charles Zachary Bornstein is a Xenakis specialist. Bornstein learned that of the 700 to 800 performances of Xenakis' music worldwide each year, only a handful were in America. He formed New York's ST-X Ensemble (named after Xenakis' series of ST- compositions from the 1960s) in 1994 to fill the void.

Xenakis, Iannis - Ensemble Music 2 1996 CD Mode
Recorded after performances at New York's prestigious 92nd Street Y in 1996 with the participation of the composer, Ensemble Music 2 is the follow up to the initial, critically acclaimed and best selling volume of Xenakis' Ensemble Works on Mode. This disc contains the first recording of Xenakis' memorial work A la Mémoire de Witold Lutoslawski, to the great Polish composer. A literal monument in sound, comprised of massive blocks of brass arranged as a dirge-like fanfare. Composed in 1994, it is the most recent work of Xenakis to be recorded.

Xenakis, Iannis - Complete Works for Piano Solo - Xenakis Edition Vol. 4 - 2002 CD Mode
Fasten your seat belts. This is one real roller coaster of a disc. Aki Takahashi plunges into Evryali as though her life depended on it... wrote Ivan Moody in his International Record Review review of this disc's original 1999 release. This reissue now contains an added piece: the first recording of Xenakis's 12 minute 6 Chansons, charming early miniatures written while Xenakis was studying in Paris with Messiaen and Milhaud. They provide a glimpse at Xenakis's early musical interests, influences and roots, documenting a distinct kinship with the piano music of Debussy and Bartók. This is the first time Xenakis's complete works for solo piano have been collected on a single disc."

Xenakis, Iannis - Music For Strings 2005 CD Mode
This CD brings together all of Xenakis' chamber music for strings for the first time (with the exception of the string quartets). The music spans almost 30 years. These visceral, sonically bold works explore the many possibilities of writing for strings, including howling glissandi, clustered pizzicatos and tremelos, the clatter of bouncing bows, and a rich palette of dynamics and color. The anarchic character of Syrmos alienated Xenakis from the traditional as well as the Darmstadt avant-garde of the 1950s, where it was felt that this music paid no heed to conventional harmony, counterpoint and musical theories -- and even required players to do violence" to their instruments! Performances are by Ensemble Resonanz, one of Germany's leading string ensembles. They are devoted to works of the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as juxtaposing these with a specialty to early music."

Zonk't - Purr 2006 CD Sound On Probation
There are 9 tracks on this Zonkt- Purr´s album . Fans of minimal-electro music will love it for sure. Synthetic sounds and noise elements are mixed up together. Tracks have very interesting concept´s arrangement, whether beats, sounds or atmospheres. Between whiles Zonkt- Purr reminded me of a space trip, full of sound´s mysteries. The tracks´ time is fine, except track 4, which is 18 minutes long. It´s absolutely very interesting stuff, everyone who loves long experimental trips shouldn´t miss that. (Alien/28.03.2006, Sauron)

Zonk't - Trope 2007 CD Sound On Probation
After having been creating a minimal ambient sphere with "falling down fearless of bruises",and having kept tied links between dub and industrial in the album "itching",having preserved an omnipresent low bass frequency, oscillating between click'n'cut, digital bones,a minimalist rhythmic and pulsed trance in "purr", zonk't is coming back with a fourth album, which could be a synthesis of all of them. But one can at once recognize that "-trope" is a rhythmical album, quite close in this way to "itching", his second album released on Brume records, but this without taking "purr" into consideration.
