Afternoon 17.00 - 19.00
will see the opening of the new staalplaat store and working space on the flughafenstrasse 38 in Berlin Neukölln. It will be in complete Berlin style with aroma's of French chaos and Dutch amnesia.
Though some parts of the shop might resemble the storage of one of the many thrift stores in the flughafenstrasse, we still have found some space to host the exhibition of Der Tapeman, one of Berlin's most underestimated artists, who can look back on more then twenty years of sound collapses and other stories. As his name indicates, he uses tapes. The exhibition will give an overlook of his career, and will be the first exhibition in the new store.
The opening hymn will be performed by Kakawaka at exactly 17.00. The master of sounds will be Markus Schwill. Staalplaat started of in 1982, and soon became one of the driving forces in the cassette culture. It is for this reason that Markus (aka DJ BumBum aka Ohmnoise) will bring a selection of the cassettes he has received since 1985.
